The belly cast (a plaster sculpture or mould of the pregnant belly), gives
women the opportunity to capture the physical changes of their pregnant
form to forever remember and cherish. Understandably not all women
enjoy the experience of being pregnant, they may only remember how
uncomfortable and restricted they felt, these emotions can be expressed
in their choice of design & decorating techniques of their belly casts
(I chose broken glass for my first belly cast to represent the pain).

Photos cannot capture the essence of a pregnancy but a decorated belly cast
captures every detail, and every curve. Midwives and Doulas around the world
encourage women to belly cast during their pregnancy, as it is seen as
strengthening the bond between the mother and her unborn child and as an
expression of her love before their birth, it is also a fun way to get the
expectant Dad and the older siblings actively involved.

YOUR BELLY CAST

There are two things you want your finished belly cast to be
1. Strong
2. Smooth

1. We have sourced the number one medical grade plaster gauze on the
market. It is incredibly strong and you will not need to add additional
plasters/stone etc over the top. There are enough rolls of plaster gauze in
each kit to belly cast even the largest of pregnant bellies
2. Our plaster also dries extra smooth. Again there is no need to coat with
extra plasters/stone etc for that smooth finish
(Caution: Avoid adding plaster/stone over the top of the belly cast, regardless
of how strong the plaster/stone is. It's adhesion to the belly cast over time will
eventually lead to cracks and peeling, you will also lose fine details such as
nipples & bellybuttons)
If you want an extra smooth finish put on a layer of spakfil or jointing compound
